Well, it's a retrofit, originally a Cybermation/ESAB machine, it has a T
style gantry, with the "top" to the T about 4' long 1" thomson rail with
common ball bearings on each end, 2 fixed horizontally, one adjustable
opposed, and one vertical (per end of the T), other end of the gantry
(~13' long to get 101" of travel) has a piece of thomson rail, with a 3"
diameter bearing, a la oversized cam follower. not the best, and a major
redesign is in the works, but there is less than .005'' of vibration
induced "bouncing" at the far end, linearly less as you get closer to
the top of the T, fine for what it's used for (signwork, and making
brackets for motors, etc.) new design will narrow the table down quite a
bit, and use B-W bearings on both end of a new gantry, as well as
shorten the length of the table (footprint right now is 13' x 18') the
top of the y axis carriage uses 2 sets of 6000 series bearings (don't
remember the #) at a 90 degree offset, centered over the rail, so each
bearing is 45 degrees offset from the vertical centerline. the bottom
uses 3 sets of the same bearing, with a die spring, a shoulder screw,
and 2 set screws about 2" long, with lock nuts to push either side of
the bearing holder, allowing truing up (tramming) of the y axis
perpindicular to the x axis. I'll post some pics when I get a few mins,
been a little nutty around here the last week or so.

>My opinion is that you would need two motors on each side of the x and y axis (4 drivers-- one motor reversed on each side). Moreover, I would think that you would need to lower the Y axis and to have v-wheels ( 4 to 6) tight on each side of the inside of the Y axis which will move the z axis across the Y axis to support the Y movement. I don't know if you can imagine what I am saying.
