Machining PCB Information Required? OT

on 2005-04-09 13:44:03 UTC
Hi Guys

I am looking for some information on machining PCB's using a CNC Milling
machine. I have a small Mill setup with Stepper Motors and I am looking
for a program that you can draw the PCB layout and produce the Isolation
Files to machine around the traces. I am not sure but I think you will
need a second program to convert the Isolation File into the G Codes
required for the Milling machine.

Also I am trying to find the best cutting bits to machine the PCB's.
What is the best type of bit to use for machining around the traces? I
have seen both the taper type bit that goes to a point and also the
normal square tipped End Mill type. Which works the best at removing
the cooper from the PCB's?

My last question is where can you get these suitable cutting bits for
PCB's? Any good Web Sites?

I would appreciate talking to anyone who is producing PCB's? with this
method. Thanks very much for your help with my questions.

Regards
Bill
