Hi my name is Ben Fleming for the most part I have been a long time lurker on this list but I really have a great respect for the good people with more knowledge about CNC than I will ever have that hangout here, keep up the good work.
I want to let you guys know that I have just released a new 160-page book on building a complete EDM system. The book title is The EDM How-To Book it includes over 100 photos and drawings. It not only covers how to build the power supply but also goes into how to build a very low cost precision servo ram and a good dielectric tank and flushing system. Also described are various flushing techniques and tips on making EDM electrodes.
This in my opinion is a really short coming in many EDM plans, often they tell you how to build the electronics but not how to really use it. As a result some end up with a bad impression of the EDM process. I also give several money-making ideas using the EDM machine. For more info, I have the beginnings of a web site at the link below.

It is a very simple system when compared to most of the EDM Plans I have seen. There are only two IC chips used. The servomotor is a simple DC Gear motor vice a stepper, which is, used in many EDM plans that I have seen. Using an analog system coupled with the DC motor really make a simple fully automated machine possible. Most of the parts are available from Radio Shack.
The Machine was shown for the first time at the CNC Workshop in Galesburg Ill in June 2005. Many who attended the work can attest to its operation if you go to the following link and scroll through the seminar review you will see several mentions of the EDM along with some photos of a burn that was done with this machine. The EDM How-To Book is in no way connected with this web site.

A Yahoo EDM homebuilders group has been setup to support those who are building the described machine. All interested are invited to subscribe

The EDM How-To Book sells for $23, which includes book rate postage shipped to your door in the US.
If you prefer 1st class, postage the cost is $25. Of course, if you live outside the U.S. postage will be more those interested contact me via email and I will advise the postal charge. The book is not available via electronic format.
Below are a few comments from people who have purchased the Book. I am also attaching a couple of photos to this email.
Hi Ben, I was impressed with the file being etched. I built a home-brew R/C type machine and would not even try something so large ...

Hello Ben, I received the book last week. Read it in a couple of days. Cant wait to build an EDM!!!!!!!!!!!!I've added it to my "To Do" List!!!I'll try to build it the fall.
Thanks for the Book,
Tim Bostic

Ben, received the book yesterday, and I am impressed with the detail that I haven't seen since Heath Kits! Thanks for the fine job. I look forward to doing this project and will have some comments later on.
Thanks,
Neal Sheffield

Ben - Just got my copy of the book, and it's fantastic! Though I'd be interested in the possibility of a PC board, I probably won't buy one myself, as your instructions on using the Radio Shack perfboard are so
comprehensive (plus, I'm way to anxious to start building to wait for aboard or kit).
Anyway, the book is great, and I hope you forge ahead with work on abook detailing a pulse-based system.
