Hi Terry & All:
I saw my first NC machine tool (a Lablone lathe) in Chicago at
the tool show in 1960. The following year I took programming
training with the editor of Modern Machine Shop as my workstation
pardner. In all the years since I have only seen one CNC machine
that would run away (and it did it repeatedly on one job) and it was
a Hurco vertical mill back in the mid 80's. We were doing some
engraving on a part after it had been machined and each time we were
doing the engraving it would go wild and go off on a diagional till
the operator hit the E stop. It did not do it at the same place and
it did it even if we changed the program. (no programming error) It
was in the middle of the summer and it was really hot but the control
had cooling on it. The boss had electronic's check it out but they
could not find the cause. Never did find out the problem and they
keep running the machine two or three shift a day.
GOD'S BLESSINGS
Bill
