Paul, I know that this is a fairly obvious answer so you have most
likely already considered it, but most programs (I'm most familiar
with Mach2) have a backlash compensation setting. I've got similar
backlash on a mini mill that has been finely tuned (or at least as
good as you can get without ball screws). Significantly, once I
adjusted the settings for the backlash compensation, the machine runs
within 0.0002 which is pretty good for the stuff that I do. Hope this
