Thanks again,
A fresh dload of BDI-4.30 installed fine & emc2 is up and running on it
I added a few notes to the WIKI page on the emc2 build
( things that confused me and maybe others)
Works great
I used XFCE and it may be my imagination,
but downloads, cvs checkouts and compiles seemed a lot faster.
I had always used KDE and turned off all the eye candy before.
