The Fairchild 1N4004 data sheet shows the drop as 1.1 volts at 1 amps.

I have seen enough differences to know to measure. But, you are
correct that no one value is correct. And that one should not use
these posts as engineering facts, but should consult the data sheets
for the manufacturers data.
