RE: Power Supplies

Another option is making your own.

Find a dead microwave oven. The transformers in them are usually good
for 700 to 1,000 watts which is about the amount of power you need. The
primary is almost always separate from the secondary so you can remove
the secondary with a Dremel tool cut-off wheel. It will 'grab' so be
careful and slow.

Once the secondary is off, wind ten turns of light gauge wire and see
what voltage you get. Figure out what voltage you want and adjust the
number of windings accordingly and rewind it with a gauge big enough to
support the current.

Be careful when disassembling the oven -- the working voltage for the
tube is generally in the 2,000 volt range and the filter capacitor can
hold a nasty charge for a long long time. Discharge with a screwdriver
and wrap a piece of wire around the terminals.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jobshophomeshop I consider this to be a
sister site to the CCED group, as many of the same members are there,
for OT subjects, that are not allowed on the CCED list.
