Hi Dan

I have a Leblond lathe that is set up the same way. It is an older NC
machine that I am retrofitting. I believe the model is a 12/12 turret lathe
or something similar. The RPM and direction of the spindle is controlled by
a synchronous stepping motor (the kind that runs on 60Hz AC) which in turn
controls the pump flow. The is a little servo controller that drives the
motor one way or the other to maintain the spindle speed as measured by a
tach generator.

That part of it works just fine but I have been considering replacing it all
with a big brushless motor because the hydraulically operated clutches that
select low, medium or high gear all have bad seals. If your lathe is the
same, do you have any idea of what is involved in replacing the clutch
seals?

Bob
