I have a T-TEch PCB machine and it has a large roughly 2.3" dia x 1/4"
thick magnet that is friction mounted on the shaft. it can be spun
wth fingers with little trouble, but it will not keep turning.

The tech at the company said that it was a dampener that removed some
of the bumps. Not really sure it's design or actual funcion.

But, it would seem that it could be a means to eleminate some real or
perceived problem.
