I have successfully used Microwave Oven transformers for making your own
low voltage, high power supplies and have been collecting them for a
couple of my own projects. Last week, I placed an advertisement in a
local want ad paper and found a guy with over twenty of them!
Needless to say, I have quite a few more than I need. The smallest of
the ovens was rated at 600 Watts (which is 20 amps at 30 volts). I have
a few that are 1KW and higher.
I will be selling the 600+ Watt units for $20 including shipping to any
USA address (I am not set up to ship overseas at this time)
The 1+ K Watt units will be $25 including shipping.
Shipping will be by USPS Priority Mail.
Payment by PayPal.
All of the units have a separate primary and secondary winding. All the
primaries are 120 VAC only. The secondary can be removed with 10 minutes
work with a hacksaw and prying with a screwdriver.
You then wind ten turns of wire around where the secondary used to be --
measure the voltage present and then figure out how many turns are
needed to get the voltage you want. The one's I have tried so far get
about .6 to 1.5 volts per turn so a 50 volt secondary should not be that
difficult to wind and there is plenty of space to work with.
I can remove the secondary for you for an extra $5
10 day inspection but you need to pay the $8.30 postage each way.
All units will be tested under load and are guaranteed good.
I'll have photos of the units on my metal-working web site in a few
days.
