I have had some luck. As the motor can be a generator, I hook up a
led/resisitor accross each coil one coil at a time, turn the shaft one
direction. If it doesn/t light, reverse the leads on the led. This
will give the polarity of the coils. Then put two coils in series and
see if the led is twice as bright.
