Hi Marcos,

Give a gander to www.belkin.com and read about the "Automatic Voltage
Regulation" option that you can get with their units (and from other
manufacturers). These things provide a sine-wave output for your PC that is
much cleaner than what you get out of your wall sockets. And George is
right, the UPS's provide AC power from the batteries using a chopper circuit
to generate the output AC. This is a good thing, because noise on your AC
line will not easily pass through a battery and chopper. So, they will
filter noise caused by other devices connected to the same AC line.

But you might actually solve the problem by using an extension cord with a
ground wire (which you said was missing). Extension cords are cheap.

Marcos,

Most UPS's provide power from the batteries and the AC just charges the
batteries. When you loose power, then the batteries still provide the power
to your equipment until they die.
