Subject: Re: Question about 4 axis controller software

I'm waiting for my copy of VectorCam, (Rats, on
vacation in Squaw Valley), and I will eventually want the 4th axis. Not
that I know what to do with it at this point. I'm going to
use the MAXNC software for a while, then I would like to get the 4-axis
version. So despite the poor manual (there's a manual?), is
it capable of doing some work? Was there someone using the 4-axis MAXNC?
I too could sure use a review of it!

Alan

[I've got a 4-axis MaxNC-15, which I'm using in conjunction with DeskProto
to carve out full-round parts by indexing the 4th axis and superimposing
different rotated "views" of the object. Faithful readers of this list may
remember that I couldn't get the passes to line up, until I upgraded to the
closed loop version of the machine. Since I tried everything I could think
of, I have to think it was the extra accuracy afforded by the closed loop
system that finally allowed it to work; but I'm getting good results now.
To do this, you don't really need 4 live axes; the 4th axis mainly acts as
a rotating fixture, so you wouldn't need a motor on it- just a crank would
do. But it sounds like Vector has an A-for-Y translation feature, and the
live 4th axis would be necessary for that.]
