That's how they usually align small lasers and some big ones although
I don't know what "catspaw" chuck methods are. There just seemed to
be only one set of screws.

Spot size is an issue, you can certainly stop the beam down a little
but not a huger amount however if your beam is nice and round and say
1mm in diameter then you can put it into a decent 1mm hole and only
when centralized will you not see the beam on the edges of the hole.
Even so its hard to see how it can beat a wobbler which if you ensure
you give it time to react is as accurate as your DROs in my experience.
