I tend not to shut down the computer, but do send it the signal.

My estops are arranged so that power is immediately cut to all drives if

1.The e-stop button is pressed.
2. Any drive fault, (signalled by the drives)
3. Any of the drive circuit breakers trip.
4. Any limit switch hit.
5. In the case of MACH if the charge pump signal is lost.

The chain consists of relays, and aux contacts on contactors (for item
case 3) . I'll add also always 24v circuits too.
