It would have to be rack and pinion drive. . With a 1" PD pinion the travel
would be
1800/3.1416=572 RPM so with a servo motor and a 3/1 reduction the motor
would only have to run about 1718 RPM.
A ballscrew or rotating ball nut wouldn't make much sense from a mechanical
efficiency point of view.
My bet is on a rack and pinion
