Jacob: I put in larger intake valve seats so that I can put in bigger
valves. Also combustion chamber work . On some models I do a lot of
welding in the exhaust port and machine to boost the flow. I use a
air-flow bench that I built and have spent a lot of time configuring
ports and valve seats and valve and seat angles for optimum flow. All
this for vintage road racing engines. One of my first CNC projects may
be flanges for Weber manifolds. A lot easier and safer than firing up
the foundry furnace and casting them.
The best head that I did was ready for the dumpster. The water passages
and comb. chambers were corroded away. I welded, machined, heat
treated/straightened and spent hours measuring flow and tweaking here
and there.I then fabricated a triple Weber manifold to match the head.
It was for an XK120 Mexican Road Race car.
