I think the original question on this thread was for a Sherline. An air
cylinder might be hard to fit there!. The Grizzley mini mill has a gas
spring inside the column with a bracket up and over the top to help lift
the head. I have thought about pulling mine off, just to see how much
help it is really being. I suspect that could be fitted to the Sherline,
but it sure looks clumsy.

Does anyone know how long gas springs like this last? How do they seal
them well enough that the pressure doesnt leak out? How do they work so
that they exert pressure in only one direction?
