I know some have done it.

I know most have not.
Also, it seem to work fine without converting to linear slides.

What size servos are You planning to use ?
What volts/amps/torque ?

Modern machinery uses linear slides.
Why do You wish to do this ... is there a particular application/need
for this ?

I suppose (don't know for a fact) that if You have zero-backlash
ballscrews and your slides are sufficiently robust,
you would gain
a. easier movement
b. better acceleration
c. faster maximum speeds

You possible losses would be in
d. easier (more risk of) chatter
d. more tendency to bite on climb milling unless you *really* have no
backlash.

Just my 0,02 €.
