I assume the transformer has 110volt primary coil, so yes you better
take it to ground. If the primary/secondary somehow gets shorted you
want a low impedance path to ground so fusing and breakers can do
their job. I have seen green wires on xfmr's used for windings, so be
sure before you power it up.
