When I set up something that requires getting back to the original datum next day- or after some failure - I mark the X and Y dials with a pen , (thin line) and check on closing down. Simple and works.
If position is lost hand/finger turn the ball screws to your marks , power up and reset zero on computer.
Vertical lines on table edges help to get within one turn.
