All IR lasers are dangerous to some degree, actually
i've been told that the 10.2um CO2 lasers are the
safest expecially when dealing with the 3-4KWatt
range. We actually use stainless steel crosshair
targets and burn patterns in cardboard for mirror
alignment. I'm far more worried the 10watt diode
marking lasers than the CO2's as far as eye damage is
concerned. All maintenance should be carried out with
safety glasses for the wavelengths involved.
