Here's another one I've had my eye on:

It uses a laser pointer to generate a fan of light. That illuminates an
object on a turntable, and a camera photographs the object. The fellow
working on it is quite far along. He hasn't updated the webpage recently.
I'm personally interested in building a scanner using a mill-mounted camera
and light source. It's on the back burner right now, until I get other
projects further along.
