Sebastian,
My website is actually www.indoor.flyer.co.uk
if you click on the projects link you will see my mill conversion. It
is more than possible to do it differently and without machine tools.
The main problem you may face is the size of the working envelope, its
only about 1.5"X6" and 2" in z. Form my small parts that is fine.
You should bare in mind that the x,y table is available seperately as
are heavier chinese versions at pretty good prices.
If the size is not a problem the Proxxon MF70 makes a terrific little
mill, I have done lots of work in plastic and wood and some milling in
aluminium. For the aluminium very light cuts are the order of the day
along with some lubrication (WD40), I was able to do some work that
impressed even the guys in my departments fully equipped workshop with
end mills down to 1mm in diameter. I always use carbide, if you shop
around they are very cheap.
Another Proxxon product that may be of intetest is the KT150 table,
its very nicely made but a bit more of a faff to convert if you want
to do things right. I got most of the way before moving house and
changing jobs twice:

The only issue is what to do for the z-axis.
