That looks like a wiper and/or stabiliser to keep the screw from whipping at high speed.

I doubt a glue gun or it's glue would hold up as the white plastic parts. How about inserting them back in, in their radial config and using something like a hose clamp to constrict around the OD.

Sorry for the poor quality images, my digital camera is from the
cambrian period, I regularly end up with trilobite-shaped shadows on images.
The little white bits which look like popcorn are the plastic inserts,
they actually have the "thread" of the ballnut roughly melted into them
where they wrapped around inside.

Any advice? Or is it time to start building a space-helicopter?
