Differential encoders are the same as standard quadrature encoders, except
instead of just having A,B,I outputs, they and A, ~A, B, ~B, I, ~I (read ~
as NOT). This allows the removal of any common mode noise at the other end
of the cable. More expensive encoders will tend to have differential
outputs.
