Belts have working tensions and breaking tensions.
Many times your mounts or motor axels will fail before the belts, if the
axels are unsupported.

The belts catalogs state the tension.
If they say max working tension is say 40 kg, just estimate about 30 and
it usually works well. If its loose,tighten it, it if broke, it was too
tight ...
Breaking is often 3-4 times working tension. If you need more than the
normal working tension, you should consider a different belt.

If you must have real, absolute data, you can rig all kinds of
measurements with scales, dti etc. but most don´t bother.

Big belts have allowed working tensions in the hundreds of kg´s or more ...
