Toothed belts can happily run at very high tensions, however you don't
gain much accuracy doing so. If you pull the belt side to side and it
feels springy it is probably fine. If it moves a bit before it takes up
the slack it is too loose. For smaller sizes (say 1/2" or 15mm), pulling
hard on the motor with one hand while doing up the clamps with the other
usually results in an adequate amount of tension. It may not be very
scientific but it works for me :-)
