Wire rope is a stiff spring. Unfortunately it looks like a Guitar
string and has resonance effects.

Unless you are using the nylon/vinyl covered stuff, when it hits
resonance, you WILL see the effects.

Belts have better damping (usually) and the wiggles will be lessened.
