I wouldn't trust the keyway(even with a suitable key, and a matching keyway in the pulley hub) unless you also install one or more set screws to hold things together.

The second hand servo motors I have for my CNC Lathe retrofit have
keyways on their shafts. Are keyways OK to hold timing pulleys on the
shaft, or should I just use set screws? (The pulleys will then turn
the ballscrews). The shafts are quite large, 14mm and 16mm, and it has
been tricky finding pulleys that will leave some hub after boring them
out.
