Cars are full of usable motors, window winders, sunroofs, wiper motors,
starters etc. and most of them with handy reduction boxes :) (with backlash :(
). Also, some of the BMW's use 48 volt electrics, no idea what models though.
Heater fan motors may also be of some use for small, high speed spindles. They
are a bit bulky for the power output but are virtually silent.
Another possible source of motors that may be of use to someone are hydraulic
power packs. Fenner and Parker (amongst others) power packs are usually built
up by the dealer and they usually carry quite a wide range of DC motors. Last
time I checked a 12 or 24 V 1hp at 100% duty motor for Fenner packs was about
80 euro.
