Bryan,
You can use a stepper motor with a double shaft. You then can put a knob or
crank on the shaft.
Please look at www.homeshopcncn.com for ball screws that have machined ends.

Hiwin and Rockford. Are these what you mean by "ready made"?
I can't see any description of how to install them at the Hiwin web site.
Also, a friend of mine said ball screws would eliminate my hand
cranks. I often rely on manual operation and would not want to give
them up. Must a ball screw conversion always eliminate hand cranks?
