Hi Brian

In my real job, I regularly have to replace steppers that are about 5 years or older.
As the salesman says, the magnets get weak and the motors start to cavitate.
We mostly use size 23 compumotors and run pretty much 24/7, so 10 years of intermittent use would be about right.
Modern motors with rare-earth magnets __seem__ to last a wee bit longer.

I'm pretty sure it's got nothing to do with your old Mac operating system 'though LOL :-)
