Did the holes in the big gear on the extruder allow you to tighten the motor mounting screws with the big gear in place?
Our Wade's Extruder had a solid big gear, so we had to put in the drive shaft, adjust the gear mesh, snug the two back motor screws only (the other two were covered by the big gear), remove the drive shaft, tighten all the motor screws, and finally re-install the drive shaft.
One of our complaints about our Wade's Extruder was that essentially to take any of it apart (or remove it from the X carriage on the printer) we pretty much had to take *all* of it apart.
It looks like the holes in the big gear help solve part of this problem.
