No, they don't line up. The holes would have to be where the gear teeth
are, so that is not an option. I did it as you describe.
One possible fix would be to redesign it to rotate the stepper 45 degrees.
I think Adrians mounting will allow the big gear to be removed from the
shaft, but I'd have to look again to be sure.
