It'll bend, 1" will bend less.

Using a solid shaft doesn't help much when it comes to bending, there's only
a small difference between a solid bar & a pipe of the same dimension.
There's a bunch of beam calculator on the 'net that'll give you an idea.

Supporting the rail will mostly solve the bending problem while adding a few
others.
