There are many 3D Cad/3D Graphic programs. Some programs, are better for
certain things, than others. What Type of 3D field are you interested in? There
are many. Any Graphics/Cad Type files take up a lot of hard drive space. If you
look at www.GrabCad.com 15,000+ members,
you will see a lot of Free 3D Cad Models. Autodesk Inventor, and Solidworks, are
probably the 2 Big Dogs, in the Business world. Alibre 3D Cad/Cam is a nice,
cheap 3D program for the home user. Cad program around $100, and the Cam module
about $700. Most any computer built in the last 5 years will run any of these 3D
programs just fine. I do prefer XP OS myself, but I have Vista on my laptop with
not to many problems. Windows 7 sucked(software didn't work, wouldn't find my
plotter/printers), and I haven't tried Windows 8. I have my house/shop networked
with 7 Dell GX620s, 2 Dell GX755s, and 3 laptops, for my 4 kids, and wife,
and I. I got a couple GX620SFF setup to run Mach3.

Hi All,
I assume many members of this list do design work using some kind
of 3D graphics program or a 3D CAD program.
I am in the process of considering a new computer (my trusty
standby has pretty much given up the ghost and I am limping along
on a netbook). In addition to hoping to get
a better camera and software that will have much larger files, I
would also like to get into 3D design at some point.
What do you use and what are the computer and OS requirements?
Thank you,
