Hi,
Thank you for all your comments, this cat has been
skinned. Acad 2002 does indeed have the torus command, however it will not work
in this instance because it seems it need always to have a hole in the middle
and what I wanted to do should have created a wheel shaped object with a dimple
either side of the centre because the section of the torus was greater than half
the diameter of the object - I was then going to fill in the dimples to get the
shape I needed. If you would like to try it yourself the measurements were 6mm
for the outside diameter of the object and 4mm for the diameter of the
torus.
The only way I found that worked was to draw a 'I
D' in polylines and revolve it around the line. I then filled in the centre with
a cylinder but as I said in an earlier email I don't usually draw in polylines
so the learning curve was steep - I still can't find a way of turning a bunch of
lines and curves into a polyline.
Regards, Terry
There are many ways to "Skin this cat"... You could use the "Torus" command or Revolve a shape about a path or extrude a shape some distance or about a path. Also see the commands "Surftab1" and "Surftab2" to set how fine or smooth you want the segmented curvature to be. Also, for example, if you wanted to make that ring hollow you could make another solid ring with a smaller diameter rib and place it in the center of your larger one and use the subtract command.
