And if he's in the wrong? BATF will nail both parties and the legal
expenses will vastly outweigh any minor profit. There's plenty enough
work out there for HSM shops that carry little if any legal risk.
As long as our government has a "thing" about firearms and those that
enjoy them, extreme caution is a healthy attitude. I hate to have to
take this attutude, but the subject here was making some side money in
the home shop. Presumably to either suplement the budget or finance more
tools (toys). I would simply have to advise the typical HSM to pass on
work that carries such risk unless they are willing to fully investigage
and comply with local and federal regulations.
That won't be fun, and fun is what home shop machining is supposed to be
about.
