Howdy! Thanks for the help. I'm going to try to use these motor/encoders
as manual handwheel inputs to to the CNC system. The Bridgeport CNC does
not have manual inputs on the X,Y,Z axes, nor does it look easy to
retrofit them, so I figured that a handwheel belted/cabled/chained to
the encoder shaft could replace a jog switch. And give me more
functionality as well.

Imagine "training" the machine. The output of these encoders could drive
the positioning motors and be "sucked up" as input to the computer. Once
the encoder pulses are in the PC, that file becomes a command file for
the mill to make multiple copies. Especially nice if you don't have
Gcode files or a 3D drawing of the part you want to make.

Sound like an interesting idea?
