Dan,
The two programs most often mentioned here are Turbocad2d(free for
download) at: www.turbocad.com
and Intellicad (also free, it's an AutoCAD clone) at:
www.cadopia.com
If ya just want quick and dirty(simple stuff), choose turboCAD, but
if you're going to be doing a lot of this stuff, I'd start learning
Intellicad.
There are others available for free, including some pretty impressive
solid modelers. Charlie Gallo has been Using one for awhile now.
Solid origin, I think.
And of course, Fred Smith sells Vector CAD/CAM, which is a truly
impressive program. Not free, BUT it can do your coding also.
