Ok, I am really interested in this thread on 3-phase power.

I have a moderately large home shop with several large metal lathes,
milling machines, etc. After years of buying and restoring industrial
equipment and thowing out the 3-phase motors, I bought a Hitachi 3-phase
inverter. I can now run up to 5 hp and can simply dial in the speed (less
slip) that I want. The motors are smaller, cheaper and far better quality.
I should have does this years ago...

My question is the external wiring of the connection to the motors. I have
several GE motors that are obviously wired as a "Y". I have a Reliance
double-speed motor that has nine leads and I successfully wired as a "Y"
also. Is the existance of a neural wire the difference between motors
wired as "deltas" or "Y's"?
