Be aware if you choose to mount the drivers on the machine
and run control cables that you've just attached a fine antenna to your
computer. If you hook this up and discover the computer dies, try unhooking
the cable and if the computer reboots fine, you need to start thinking
drivers at the computer end.

also, if your driver is anything but a transistor watching a data line
you're going to have problems with data corruption. I have a 25' cable
running to my printer, and occasionally see glitches on it due to
the length of the cable.

At the very least, I'd say get a decent quality sheilded cable for this trick.
