I haven't worked with these extensively but I would liken machining ball
screws to machining ball bearings. With my skills I wouldn't consider
trying either. As others have mentioned, for the time I'd have to put
into this there are many other things I could build which I can't buy.

But if you try it please keep us updated on your progress. :-)
