Yes, it does. But the umpteen steps of installing Linux and leading up to
running the script are what is off-putting. The only thing I've ever
compiled are QuickBasic programs. :-) For me the "price" is learning (or
worse, installing from rote without actually understanding it...) a whole
new operating system which I'll only be running one program under.

I'm imagining that, in any case, I'll probably try the freeware Stepster as
a lowest common denominator to prove out the CNC conversion.

But if the benefits are great enough (are things like constant-velocity
profiling really significant on a little machine like a Sherline?) I'll go
the Linux/RT/EMC route. At some point in time, DOS was as cryptic as
Martian to me too ("pipe", what's this "pipe"?... :-)
