You have to remember that a lot of C instructions map directly to asm instructions on the pdp-11. :-)

ps. had a guy working for me that did 4K (words) on a pdp-11 in code that was toggled in, tested and then offloaded to an HP9825
calc. tape drive.
That code ran for 15 years in a dedicated enviroment without a glitch.
