This works fine with a 250 cycle or less encoder. But, with an encoder of
1000 cycles/rev or more, it would be extremely difficult to do manually. The
only way I could imagine doing it is to connect a beeper (some DVM's have
this built in) to the A channel, mount the encoder in the middle of a sheet of
plywood at least a couple of feet square, and put an arm on the encoder
shaft. then, you could make the fine movements needed to count each
cycle. I HAVE moved 1000 cycle/rev encoders manually, and the individual
cycles are such a tiny movement on the shaft, that any attempt to move
just one cycle makes it move 5 or 10.
