WOW! You CHILDREN! I must be one of the rare OLDE PHARTS in here! We had
to learn (something about) ALGOL when I was in school ('62-'66!!!), and the
only things I can remember about it are: It ran on an old Burroughs 204 that
was GIVEN to our college by Shell (or was it Mobil?), when they upgraded to a
pocket 4-banger!; it was SLOWER than a skilled slide-rule operator!; and the
"name" was derived from "A LOGarithmic Language". The prof. was NOT amused
when we admonished, "But that'd be 'ALOG'L', not 'ALGOL'!!!"

I now can't remember the first thing about it, except the instructor would
say, "I'm supposed to TEACH you this crap, but it was obsolete before that
old tube-model '204 was hauled in, here, so feel free to ignore! There will
be no 'Final'!"
