But, wait a minute! It IS on topic. It's not exactly RS-274D
(g-code), but they were computer-guided, which is sort of
like CNC, which is the end result of CAD-CAM. Actually,
many of the developments in precision motion control came
out of research in ICBMs and other weapons systems. The
rest was driven by the need to MANUFACTURE those same
weapons systems. Remember, the very first NC machine tool
was built for an Air Force research contract.
